Rainbow Concert
Back in September 2019, I had the pleasure of seeing Dodie Clarke in concert at The Danforth Music Hall in Toronto, ON, and on top of the great company, warm atmosphere, and wonderful music, I really did love the lighting design! The entire concert was full of lighting changes, but they always added to the music rather than distracting from it. This piece is based off of a photograph I took during one of the songs because it was just so gorgeous. Couldn’t help but recreate this beautiful moment so I could remember a time when standing in a room full of strangers was more reassuring than anything else.

Othello Tunnels
Many years ago, I was privileged to travel out west to British Columbia. We arrived late in the evening in Vancouver, and set off the next morning on a bus ride to Kamloops. A couple hours into the drive - in an effort to give the bus full of rambunctious teens a chance to stretch - we stopped off in Hope, BC at the Othello Tunnels. A true landmark of Canadian history, the Othello Tunnels were originally part of the Transcanada Railway. Now, they're a destination for nature and history lovers alike, and those who have been there may recognize them from some movies, too! This piece is based off of a very hopeful light at the end of the tunnel type photo I took during my visit.

Call Me Crazy
Call her whatever you want, but Gabbie Hanna is without a doubt a talented woman. When she released her single Call Me Crazy, it quickly became a favourite of many of her fans. Personally, I watched her Instagram stories of her seeing fan reactions and just enjoying the song herself. In particular, a radio station in California played the song and she was so full of joy that she just started dancing. And yes, she posted it to social media, but it felt like a joy and an action that was for no one but herself. And that joy inspired me to create this piece - created in about an hour or two fairly late in the evening.

Phoenix Queen
Inspiration can come from anywhere. And in this case, it came from a meme a friend sent me, prompting me to say that these three cartoon women would make an awesome band. This album artwork inspired illustration reimagines Azula, Wildfire, and Shego not as villains but as an all girl punk band and I truly could not be happier with how this turned out.

Lofi Challenge
Lofi girl from ChilledCow's Youtube radio stream (Lofi Beats to Study/Relax to) has become an icon in and of herself. But artists all over the world have been participating in the #LofiGirlChallenge. The gist is to put yourself into the scene, and to adjust the surroundings to match your own - or at least to represent them. This was a super fun piece in part because I don't often draw myself, but also because I got to play with lighting in some new ways. One of my favourite parts is actually the cactus itself - each needle is individually drawn and that choice absolutely made it take longer than it could have, but the finished effect was absolutely worth the time.
